Easter Week

I realize that I haven't posted in awhile. It has been a rough week in our household, full of germs and medications. I didn't take too many pictures because frankly, I wasn't feeling too hot this week. This is the way sicknesses go in our house: Austin or Abby will bring it home and spread it to the other family members. James will, for the most part, avoid the sickness all together. Emily will be on her deathbed for 1 day, and then the next morning she will wake up and miraculously have no symptoms at all (she inherited her dad's freaky healthy genes). Austin will start wheezing and will be on a nebulizer for days. Abby will get an ear infection (even after tubes). And me, well I'll have it for weeks.

Performing on Palm Sunday at church.

I hosted Bunko during the week and made this bunny cake - with the help of my favorite neighbor. Impressed?

The girls had their Easter party at school on Thursday.

Coloring eggs for the bunny to hide, eagerly awaiting for his arrival.

Hunting for their eggs on Easter morning. They came downstairs the first time at 5:45.

My kiddos have an obsession with candy. Maybe it's because they don't have it very much, so when Halloween or Easter comes around they go completely crazy. I don't know. I do know that at some point tonight, the majority of it will be thrown away and life will move on with no more sugar highs until the next holiday.

Here are the girls in their Easter dresses.

As Christians, we really celebrate Easter. Sure we eat the candy, do arts and crafts, and go to parties. But knowing the reason -- and the gift of Easter, really allows us to give thanks for Christ and it's a time to center ourselves in our faith. Happy Easter everyone!

The future of NASA

What do astronauts do?

Emily: "They get on big rocketships."
Abby: "They can fly."
Emily: "No, Abby. That's not right. Peoples do not fly."
Abby: "Astronauts fly."

What other little girl out there puts space helmets on her barbies?

Girls 1st Dentist Trip

I knew it was going to be a good trip to the dentist after picking Austin up from school. He convinced the girls they would LOVE the dentist (I think they believe him more than me). They get to pick out a toothpaste flavor, get stickers, see fish, pick out toys, etc. When we got there, Austin immediately started reading books to Emily.

The girls sat down and got their x-rays. Emily was first up and did great. Abby was a little hesitant but she finished with no tears. They got some stickers and then the dentist came in to check their teeth.

Things have definitely changed from when I used to go to the dentist. They immediately got tiaras and toy rings. Pretty smart if you ask me. They then happily skipped on their way to get their teeth cleaned, got good remarks, and then picked out another toy.

In the car going home, Emily asked "can we go to the dentist tomorrow?"

Video games

When your 6 year old asks Santa for some NFL video games for Christmas, do NOT do it. Do not drink the kool-aid.

Your very active little one will become obsessed with the video game. Instead of wanting to play outside when he gets home from school, he'll want to sit in front of the tv. It will be the first thing he does when he wakes up in the morning. And if he loses, he will get VERY upset.

And eventually this could happen to your child:

Wednesday Dinner

When Austin came home, we went outside and started throwing his football back and forth. Boy that kid sure can throw a mean spiral. Sure it's just a nerf, but still. Then it all started.

Abby: "I'm hungry." (repeated over and over and over)
Me: "I know sweetie, we'll have dinner in a little bit."

This same dialogue went on for the next 15 minutes.

Fed up, I said "Abby, why don't YOU make mommy dinner tonight." I fully expected her to go make me a pretend meal upstairs in her play kitchen.

Austin and I came inside and this is what we saw. Caught red-handed. She got the bowls from the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. That bowl is for me.

"No, Em! It's not ready yet!"

Not too thrilled about her dinner selection.

What's cereal without a little flaxseed?

Thanks for dinner, Abby. I really didn't have anything planned anyway.
